Your Chance To Hear The Sound Of Music On A Uniworld River Cruise
2015 marks the 50th anniversary of the film adaptation of The Sound of Music. Yes, it really has been 50 years since Julie Andrews twirled in front of that infamous Alpine backdrop in a story that has been taken into the hearts of so many people around the world. The film went on to scoop five Oscars at the 38th Academy Awards, two Golden Globes and numerous other accolades.
In this landmark year, many events are being staged in the city of Salzburg, where the story was filmed. There will be various different versions of the musical put on all over the city, with a performance form the Salzburg Marionette Theatre being one of the definite highlights. Sound of Music themed tours will be taking place in abundance and hotels have even dedicated entire TV channels to running the film on a continuous loop.

There are also celebrations taking place on one of Europe’s most loved waterways, the Danube. Danube river cruises often include a shore excursion to Salzburg and Uniworld have decided to extend upon this by also providing some themed onboard entertainment during certain trips.
Two ‘Enchanting Danube’ itineraries, departing on July 26th and August 2nd respectively, will offer guests the chance to meet one of the descendants from the real life Von Trapp family, on which the film was based. Elisabeth Von Trapp, Granddaughter of Baron Georg, will be stepping on board as part of the entertainment provided by the cruise line. Uniworld, like many operators, often invites guest speakers to talk on a certain theme and this booking is one that is sure to excite fans of this classic tale.

A singer/songwriter in her own right, Elisabeth will be hosting a singalong and reception so that guests can relive some of their favourite pieces of music from the film. As well as stepping ashore to join them at the Mirabell Palace Chapel and discussing some of her ‘favourite things’ about the film, she will also be revealing how Hollywood changed to the storyline and telling everyone how the real life events played out.
If you would like to book your place on one of these special Uniworld river cruises along the Danube, our team is waiting for your call. Don’t miss your chance to immersive yourself in the world of the film in its 50th anniversary year.
