Uniworld’s Fleet Upgrade Continues With Four More New Additions
Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection has announced that four more ships will be joining the fleet in the near future. Following on from the launch of S.S Joie de Vivre in 2017 and the subsequent upgrade of both S.S Beatrice (2018) and S.S Bon Voyage (2019), the cruise line is keen to continue evolving the current fleet to cement themselves at the pinnacle of high-end river cruising.
As the new builds join the ranks, four current ships will be making way, meaning that this is a move to upgrade rather than to expand. The vessels are likely to follow the model of Uniworld’s Super Ships, making room for more suites and dining facilities on board rather than prioritising increased capacity. In fact, Uniworld CEO Ellen Bettridge confirmed that the new arrivals will carry even fewer passengers than those in the fleet at the moment, stating that the move was “… all about elevating our brand.”
Three of the announced vessels will be launched in 2020 and will sail the Douro, Mekong and Nile Rivers respectively. They will then be joined by a fourth ship in 2021 which will travel along Russia’s Volga River. All of these destinations have shown significant growth in recent years and Uniworld is keen to offer guests a more luxurious experience in these popular regions. Egypt, in particular, has seen a great deal of interest and this is unlikely to be the last new ship revealed between now and 2020 to soon be sailing in this part of the world.
On top of this, Uniworld has also disclosed that 2020 will bring an upgrade to River Countess, the line’s 130-passenger vessel that currently sails along the River Po and throughout Venice. As part of the refurbishment, she will be renamed and, following guest feedback, her itineraries will focus more on exploring the Venetian Lagoon.
