More Options For American River Cruises Courtesy Of Viking and Uniworld

10th December 2019

The options available within the world of river cruising allow you to travel all over the planet via its internal waterways, exploring Europe, the Far East, Africa and the Americas. And, especially in the case of the latter, the choices are growing when it comes to interesting itineraries in both the USA and South America.

Viking River Cruises and Uniworld are both branching out to regions they are yet to discover, bringing new ships and new opportunities to guests in the process. At the start of the year, the news broke that Viking would begin talks regarding Mississippi River cruises and those negotiations are beginning to gather pace. Towns and cities along the banks of this fabled river have struck a deal with the Longship operator, meaning that places like La Crosse, Wisconsin; Davenport, Iowa and Burlington, Iowa will be amongst the ports guests can expect to enjoy.

These discussions relate to 2022 and 2023, so we’re still a few years away from Viking River cruises adding the Mississippi to their portfolio. However, when they do, there are sure to be more ships joining the ever-expanding fleet.

Uniworld Ventures Into The Amazon

Uniworld Amazon Itinerary

The second river cruise line opening up routes across the pond in the near future is Uniworld, as they recently announced two itineraries in Peru. Whilst some companies opt for Brazil when venturing into this part of the world, the boutique operator has chosen neighbour Peru for its exciting Amazon River cruises.

Launching in September, these trips will give you a chance to not only traverse the world’s most famous river but also visit Peru’s capital, Lima, and see bucket list sights like Machu Picchu and Cusco in the Sacred Valley. There are 15-day and 11-day options to choose from, both including 7-night river cruises during which a qualified naturalist will join you for the journey.

A new route means a new ship and so Uniworld will be welcoming Aria Amazon into the fleet. The all-suite vessel has space for just 32 guests and will include a five-star restaurant with menu options from chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, a Jacuzzi, an observation deck, a bar and a lounge – the use of which will all be part of your cruise fare.

This is in addition to Uniworld’s usual inclusive offering of unlimited spirits and wines, scheduled airport transfers, all gratuities on board and ashore, curated excursions, onboard entertainment and Wi-Fi access. Prices start at £11,799pp.
